Katelyn Simon

Arts Administrator | Oboist

Thank for you visiting my site. I'm an arts administrator, musician, and writer. At the core of my multifaceted career is the conviction that the arts transform and empower.

Arts Administrator

I've developed a diverse skill set in arts management. I currently serve as Manager of Institutional Giving for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City, where I focus on grantwriting and foundation, government, and corporate relations. As former Marketing Manager for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, I also have significant experience in project management, media placement, and collateral production. I served previously as a board director for renowned Chicago new music collective Ensemble Dal Niente.

Equally at home in orchestra and chamber music settings, I perform throughout Chicago and the Midwest. I appear frequently with the South Bend Symphony (IN), and previously served there as Acting Associate Principal Oboe and Solo English Horn. I've also held positions with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Northbrook Symphony. Recent appearances include the Wicked Broadway tour, the Pine Mountain Music Festival, the Peoria Bach Festival, and numerous early music collaborations at the University of Notre Dame. I've performed with the Fort Wayne, Akron, and West Michigan symphonies, and performed under Esa-Pekka Salonen, Sir Mark Elder, and James Gaffigan. I hold a Master of Music from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music from Baldwin-Wallace College, and studied with Michael Henoch, Elizabeth Camus, and Lawrence McDonald. Be sure to check out my upcoming performances and listening page.

An enthusiastic and versatile writer, I have extensive experience writing and editing copy, particularly in a performing arts context (samples available here). I'm a regular contributor to The Marbury Project, a column on The Clyde Fitch Report committed to solving the problem of gender inequality in the arts.

I have over ten years' experience teaching all levels and ages. In July 2015, I travelled to the Cange region of Haiti to join an international volunteer faculty at the École de Musique Sainte Trinité grand camp. I've served as Adjunct Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Notre Dame, and performed throughout Chicagoland schools as a member of the Chicago Civic Wind Quintet.

Newly based in NYC, I'm a native of Springfield, OH. I enjoy reading, running, practicing French, travelling with my husband, Robert, and planning my next adventure. To view my full resume, please visit my Linkedin profile or contact me.
